Taxi Price Rise Looking Likely: Hearings to be Held on 13 RMB Flag Fall
May 09, 2013 By eChinacities.com

On May 7 it was announced that hearings on increasing the Beijing taxi flag fall to 13 RMB will be held in the near future.

The hearings will also look at whether to implement a charge of 2.3 RMB or 2.6 RMB charge per kilometer and reduce the fuel surcharge to 1 RMB, as well as whether mileage fares should increase faster depending on the time of day. A proposal right now is that during the rush hour periods (7:00-9:00 and 17:00-19:00), when travel speed is likely to be slow, the taxi fare may charge the equivalent of two kilometers every five minutes. During other times, the taxi fare may charge the equivalent of one kilometer every five minutes.

The hearings will be held in half a month’s time.
