Suspect Arrested in Connection with Changsha Bus Fire

Spokesperson for Changsha Police announced in a press conference on the morning of July 22nd that after 8 hours of investigations, they have a arrested a suspect who they believe to be responsible for starting the fire aboard the airport bus. The suspect is currently in custody.

According to police investigations, the alleged arsonist is Chen Haitao, a 36-year old native of Yiyang, Hunan. On the afternoon of July 21st, Chen had arrived in Changsha from Yiyang and took the airport bus from the centre of town to Huanghua Airport. Chen then had again boarded the airport bus as it left the airport and headed towards downtown Changsha at 15:46 that same day. After the bus had traveled about 6km on the expressway, Chen suddenly set a canvas bag carrying combustibles alight causing a large fire, which resulted in 2 fatalities and 14 injured passengers, 3 of whom are in a critical condition. Chen himself was also rushed to the hospital for treatment for the burns he had sustained.
