A migrant worker, who was stranded in Hong Kong airport after being conned, has found his way home, thanks to some kind strangers, plus the internet.

Wu Jiayong shot to internet fame over the weekend after he was spotted cooking up some grub with a rice cooker at Hong Kong Airport. Dubbed “Rice Cooker Brother” by netizens, a reporter tracked him down and discovered that he’d missed his connecting flight and was stranded in Hong Kong airport without enough money for food.

After being interviewed by Hong Kong media, Rice Cooker Brother’s sorry story came out. He had paid 5,000 RMB to a job broker who promised him a laboring job in Singapore that would pay the equivalent of 11,000 RMB a month. However, when he got there, he discovered that he’d been cheated. Other workers told him that there was no way he would be paid that much. He also told the press that he hadn’t had a proper meal the whole month that he was there.

Wu decided to quit and return back to Shandong with his modest savings. His flight was deducted from his pay and he wired the rest of his money back to his family. When connecting at Hong Kong airport, he mistakenly arrived at the gate late. Stuck with only 200 RMB and unable to afford the expensive airport food and drink, he got out his rice cooker and made a meal.

Fortunately, his luck then changed, as reporters who came to find him put him up in a hotel and bought him some food.

Safely back home in Laiwu, Wu said that he is now determined to get the broker’s fee back from the agent who conned him.

HK is a great place. Good restaurants, pubs etc and the people are friendlier and civilised like the rest of the world.

HK is corrupt, dirty, and the people are either broke, greedy or totally immoral...the whole place has been turned into a giant shopping mall for the Yellow Horde...then again, Macau was wasted even earlier...next time try lining up for 4 hours at SZ border to see just how nice and 'efficient' is the HK cousins...they must imagine they are still part of the laziest lot in the world, the UK...if a bit more scrubbed than the average Brit...

This is such B.S. He took a flight from SH routed through HK to go to Shandong? Yeah, right. He would have taken a bench seat on a slow train to save money. Even if he wanted to fly, it would be too expensive to fly via HK. Even this foreigner would fly to GZ, and train to HK. Who believes this garbage?
