Ahead of World No Tobacco Day on May 31, a global survey has been released detailing the smoking habits of 188 countries. China, notorious for a smoking culture with around one third of all cigarettes in the world being smoked in the country, produced some worrying statistics on young smokers.

In the age group 13-15, it was found that 20 percent had tried smoking and nearly 7 percent were regular smokers. That makes 9.4 million smokers in that age group, rather a lot we think. The study also found that rural children were more likely to be smokers than their urban counterparts. The statistics placed China in the bottom 30 percent of nations in terms of the smoking children demographic.

Moreover, 70 percent of these children will experience second-hand smoke in their homes with around half also experiencing it at school.

There are so many studies about the harmfull effects of second hand smoke you'd think the government would do something. I work I in a middle school and I see a few teachers smoking in front of their students on a regular basis. If the teacher's smoke it is no wonder why students think it is cool.
