Spring Festival is China’s busiest time of the year for rail transport. The world’s largest annual migration sees 200 million or so Chinese heading home for the holidays, with most of them traveling by train to do so. Spring Festival railway season for Beijing started last Wednesday, with many city residents heading home early to make it back for the start of Spring Festival, February 14th this year, and to beat the rush. Beijing’s Lunar New Year travel season starts earlier than many cities because of the number of residents hailing from other cities. When the
peak season kicks into gear on February 11th, more than 750,000 passengers a day will be passing though Beijing’s railway stations.
