South Korean Woman Caught with Tadpoles in Mouth at Guangzhou Airport

Airport adventures and animal antics—two topics that have been pretty prevalent in our Weird News section of late, so when the chance came to fuse these two together into one awesomely all-encompassing piece, we just couldn’t pass it up.

At 09:00 on March 16, a South Korean woman passing through customs at Guangzhou’s Baiyun Airport was stopped by security personnel because her suitcase contained bottled liquids, which as we all know, is a big no-no for carry-on luggage. Opening her bag, the woman removed a small glass bottle, and, while the security guards were looking away, quickly gulped down the contents. The woman then proudly presented her empty bottle to security personnel and prepared to head onwards. However, observant security worker Xiao Tan noted that the woman was behaving a bit strangely and—it seemed—hadn’t swallowed the contents of her bottle yet. Thus, Xiao asked the woman to open her mouth. In response, she spat out the water back into her glass bottle, revealing three tadpoles in the water. The woman explained that she’d received the tadpoles as a gift from a Chinese friend and simply didn’t want to part with them. Sentimentality aside, ‘rules is rules’ and the security personnel made her dispose of the pet tadpoles before she was allowed to board the plane.
