We’re often quick to blame drivers in China for their often questionable driving skills, though this time it's actually the road itself that's to blame.

On May 13, a three-meter deep sinkhole suddenly opened underneath a car in Hotan, Xinjiang, causing the driver, his wife and child to plummet down in what must have been a nasty surprise. Thankfully, all three managed to escape without any injuries.

A news reports later that day blamed the sudden appearance of the sinkhole on heavy rainfall over the last few days.
