“Pee Sideways and Get Fined”: Shenzhen Public Toilet Rules Mean Serious Business
Aug 19, 2013 By eChinacities.com

China is a never-ending source of absurd toilet stories. Anyone remember the ridiculous three-fly rule?

The latest attention-grabbing story to hit the news involves a new law in Shenzhen that will fine toilet-users up to 100 RMB for breaking rules related to the “Shenzhen Public Toilet Management Methods” that comes into effect on September 1.

The new law will make it illegal to create graffiti in the toilets, smoke, spit and get your urine outside the designated urinal/hole. Netizens have taken to social media to comment on the ridiculousness of the rule, with many asking how such a rule can realistically be enforced. Many netizens have pointed out that since spitting is already illegal in most public places, where if not in a toilet, can people in Shenzhen release their loogie?

As for not urinating outside the hole, Shenzhen seems to be set on making a mint from this new rule.

Spitting is already illegal in public> Well, I would never have known. Certainly doesn't look illegal to me.

Since the ridiculousness of some Chinese laws has no limits, probably they'll come up with the brilliant idea of implementing video cameras within public toilets....HAHA
