A man in Hangzhou took to the streets, shirtless and wielding a megaphone, in the freezing February weather to beg forgiveness from his wife. His crime: not handing over his salary to her.
Wang knelt for hours outside his apartment on a computer keyboard with a sign around his neck that said: “My wife, I was wrong. From now on I’ll hand over all my salary.”
Wang said that although he and his wife quarrel sometimes, their relationship is “not bad”. However, he also worryingly mentioned that she was very controlling and that she often punished him by making him kneel on a keyboard.
After they married, Wang’s wife required that he hand over his salary to him so she could control the family’s finances. However, in December he didn’t hand anything over as he had spent it all.
This apparently didn’t go down well with Mrs Wang, who locked him out.
Although the practice of husbands handing their salary over to their wives is pretty common in China, this appears to simply be an abusive relationship.

Yeah..... this happened to me once. Mate, I tell yer, that was a bad day...how I wish I had've had a keyboard to kneel on. This bloke is LUCKY! But it won't happen to me again as I now can't wait to hand it all over. And that's not all I'm expected to do...I also have to do the homework every other day. For that, she demands I shave.

In terms of historical regards: I'm not sure if it was due to misogyny on the men's part (knowing the psychological abuse they stood to bear) or the want to reduce competition on the female's part (matriarchial dominance) that female Chinese women were deemed "undesirable" as spawn.

Also, as it's a common "tradition" (or, financial abuse, if you prefer a more accurate term), I'm certain the UN will address it, like they have with other aspects of gender inequality, and it totally won't be ignored and/or justified, because, you know, feminism is all about equality, and men being forced by cultural norms and societal expectations to give up the products of their labor (as well as justification provided for emotional and psychological abuse of said men) sounds kinda unequal... so, we'll see international outrage about it. I mean, articles about "leftover women" have circulated Western media, condemning misogny in China, so I'm sure there'll be as much anger about how men are expected to give up control of the money they earn. Any time now. Real soon. That outrage at the obvious sexism will be a-comin' real, real soon. Totally sure of it.
