Shenzhen Travel Tips

Visitors arriving by car should expect the police to request identification. For foreigners this means, provide a passport and make sure all your paperwork is in order (including a current Chinese visa). This is not limited to foreign visitors since Chinese must also provide a Chinese ID card, which allows travel to the area.

Foreign visitors crossing the border by taxi should expect to get out of the car and provide passport and visa. Then expect to walk across the 'border' and resume travel via another taxi. Shenzhen provides many liberties to international travelers.

Visitors heading to Zhongying Street for sightseeing and shopping are required to obtain special permission from the Public Security Bureau in Shenzhen. Visitors that feel their Chinese is not good enough, can request assistance from a travel agency.
In terms of weather, Shenzhen enjoys long summers and short winters. Usually, visitors can expect a shower or two during the summer (May to September), but for those expecting lots of sunshine, this is a paradise, for the city enjoys an average of 2,120 hours of sunshine annually. Many locals will try to deter travelers from visiting Shenzhen during the summer months because the city is in the path of typhoons. The city is hit by several typhoons a year, but the provincial government has taken measures to protect its residents and guests making travel to the city a safe and worry-free experience.

Recently, Shenzhen Tourism Bureau has established consulting centers which provide information about traffic, accommodations, permits and much more. Information booths have been set around the city with services being provided in Chinese and English. Below is a list of centers around the city willing to assist travelers in all aspect of tourism.
