Shenzhen Transport - Train

The city of Shenzhen is easily reached from inland China via two major railways: the Beijing-Kowloon Railway and the Kowloon-Canton Railway. Both railways bisect Shenzhen to connect inland cities to Shenzhen, and Hong Kong. The high-speed train from Shenzhen to Guangzhou departs from both cities at intervals of 20 minutes, with a travel time of one hour. All high-speed trains begin with the letter ''D'' and depart from the Shenzhen Railway Station.

There are three different ways to book a train ticket in Shenzhen: over the phone, online or at the ticket window. Tickets can be purchased over the telephone 4-12 days in advance. If you want to reserve tickets for a train departing between 6:00-12:00, the tickets must be picked up on the evening prior to departure between 12:00-24:00. If you want to reserve tickets for a train departing between 12:00-23:00, the tickets must be picked up in the morning on the day of departure between 24:00-12:00. Tickets are non-transferable and are void if not used on the scheduled day.

To book tickets online, visit www.12306.cn. Tickets can be purchased online up to 12 days in advance (online booking hours are 7:00-23:00) and can be picked up at the railway station anytime after booking is completed. Tickets purchased from the ticketing windows at the railway station can be picked up to 10 days in advance.

Shenzhen Railway Station is located in Luohu district. Travelers interested in going to Beijing (24 hrs), Shanghai (18 hrs), Changsha (9 hrs), and other major cities depart from this station. During holiday periods, travelers are advised to purchase tickets in advance. This station serves as the ticket sales office for both stations with automated ticketing machines available.

Shenzhen West Railway Station is the largest station in the city. The station is located in Nanshan district and has limited trains heading to Hefei (20 hrs), Huaihua (15.5 hrs), Yueyang (12 hrs), Dongguan (30min), and Nanjing (26 hrs).

Travelers unable to buy their tickets directly from Shenzhen Railway Station can also purchase train tickets at ticket agency offices. There are several ticketing offices inside major hotels and around town.
