Shenzhen Subway Station Security Guards Hold IDs of Bathroom Users

On April 5, a post about the unusual behavior of security guards at Shenzhen Airport attracted the attention of many Chinese netizens.

According to the post, two security guards at Shenzhen Airport East Subway Station stand guard outside of a restroom and require people to leave their ID cards with them while they use the facilities.

After the post went viral, the subway authorities clarified the situation, stating that the restroom was meant to be used for paying subway passengers, although in years past they’d allow people to use it without buying a subway ticket.

However, last year, after discovering that some of these people were later sneaking onto the subway for free, they decided that the best way to deal with the situation (and keep it open to public use), was to hold onto the ID cards of people using the restroom.
