The "Second Shenzhen International Piano Concerto Competition” will be held in Shenzhen from October 24th to November 5th at the Shenzhen Concert Hall. The Shenzhen International Piano Concerto Competition was founded in 2006, as a regular event to be held every three years. The competition has been sponsored by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, and was organised by the Shenzhen Bureau of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Shenzhen International Cultural Association. The Shenzhen Media Group, Shenzhen Press Group, Shenzhen symphony orchestra, the Shenzhen arts school and the Shenzhen concert hall have all also helped support the event in various ways.

As of May of this year, the Organizing Committee had received nearly 70 registration applications from performers around the world. 45 performers were chosen for this year's competition. The youngest performer is only 18 years old. There are 24 performers from foreign countries competing, highlighting the "international-ness" of the event. The competition has attracted many students from well-known music schools to participate, such as Royal College of Music (Britain), Tchaikovsky Conservatory (Russia), etc.
