The abbot of the legendary Shaolin Temple announced plans to hold an international martial arts contest to raise the temple’s international profile.
The contest would consist of individual and group categories and include categories for karate, taekwondo and kung fu.
The abbot said in a statement on Wednesday, that he hopes that the competition will ‘form ties with the world’ ‘expand the impact of Buddhism’ and ‘make Shaolin culture better known’.
The temple is also planning forums on martial arts in the future.
