Shanghai Transport - Train

Shanghai's busiest train stations are Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai South Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station.

There are three different ways to book a train ticket in Shanghai: over the phone, online and at the ticket window. Tickets can be purchased over the telephone (9510 5195) up to 4-12 days in advance. If you want to reserve tickets for trains departing between 6:00-12:00, the tickets must be collected on the same day between 12:00-24:00. For tickets departing between 12:00-23:00, ticket pick up time is from 0:00-12:00. Tickets are non transferable and are void if not used on the correct day.

To book tickets online, visit www.12306.cn. Tickets can be reserved daily from 7:00-23:00 up to twelve days in advance.

Tickets can be purchased at ticket windows up to 10 days in advance.

Shanghai Railway Station (Shanghai Zhan)

This train station is located in Zhabei district, on the intersection of Metro Lines 1, 3 and 4. At least 180 trains run daily between Shanghai and other cities all over the country. There are high-speed and express trains to Nanjing (79 min), Suzhou (32 min), Hangzhou (49 min), Wuxi (43min) and Changzhou (66 min). Shanghai Railway Station also runs tourist trains to Huangshan (K8418/K8419, 11 hours 50 minutes) and Yan'an (K560/K557, 14:50-14:48, 23 hours 58 minutes) while Shanghai South Railway Station runs a tourist train to Wuyishan (K197/K200, 20:47-5:47, 9 hours; K163, 12:16-23:06, 10 hours 50 minutes; K2001, 17:23-4:15, 10 hours 52 minutes).

Shanghai South Railway Station (Shanghai Nanzhan)
Shanghai South Railway station serves southern destinations like Nanchang (9.5 hrs), Changsha (14 hrs), Fuzhou (17 hrs), Hangzhou (2 hrs), Shenzhen (18 hrs), Guangzhou (18.5 hrs), Chongqing (30 hrs), Guilin (20 hrs), Nanning (27 hrs), Kunming (37 hrs) and Sanya (36 hrs). The station is located at the intersection of Metro Lines 1 and 3.

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (Shanghai Hongqiaozhan)

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station contains routes including the Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway, Shanghai-Nanjing highspeed railway and the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway. The station is East China’s most important and largest passenger rail hub. Trains from Hongqiao Station go to Suzhou (0.5hrs), Wuxi (0.75 hrs), Nanjing (1.2 hrs), Hefei (3 hrs), Wuhan (5 hrs), Chengdu (15.5 hrs), Chongqing (15 hrs), Beijing (5 hrs), Hangzhou (1 hrs), Jinhua (2.5 hrs), Nanchang (5.5 hrs), Changsha (8 hrs), Ningbo (3 hrs), Wenzhou (4.5 hrs), Fuzhou (6 hrs), Xiamen (7.75 hrs).
