According to the latest data released by the city census bureau, regular inhabitants in Shanghai reached 19.21 million people as of the end of 2009 – of which 13.8 million are household registered Shanghai residents. And living space for the Shanghai residents averaged around 34 square meters. As of the end of 2009, Shanghai residents own around 2.84 million cars, an increase of 6.3% from last year.
