Six people were killed during a shooting incident which occurred in Shanghai on June 22. The suspect, a 62-year-old man named Fan Jieming, has been arrested.

The spree was reportedly triggered by a financial dispute with Fan’s colleague, Zhang. Fan allegedly beat Zhang to death at around 17:00 at a chemical factory in Shanghai’s Baoshan District. Afterwards, Fan used a hunting rifle, which he had been hiding in his dormitory, to force a driver named Bian to drive him to the Zhoupu area of Pudong District.

Fan then gunned down the driver before arriving at Zhoupu, and then killed a guard at a nearby military barracks. Fan then headed back to the factory, and killed another three people and injured two at around 23:00. Finally, Fan entered the factory and was discovered by police who were called to the scene. In one last struggle, Fan fired a few shots at the police and injured one, before eventually being tackled to the ground.

It was later found that Fan Jieming was born in January 1951 in Shanghai, and was the Director of Office for the Guangyu Fine Chemical Co. Previously a soldier, Fan was known for his often erratic temper. It is currently unknown as to how or where Fan acquired the gun, though police are investigating further.
