Shanghai Building Thought to be Housing Chinese Military Hackers

On February 19, Mandiant, a US network security company, released a 60-page report detailing attacks over the past few years from hackers it claims are working for the Chinese military. The New York Times reported that Mandiant have spent the last six years tracking the origins of 141 hacking incidents, and have discovered that these hackers are all based in a 12-storey complex in Shanghai’s Pudong District, which also houses 61,398 troops. In response, China’s Defence Minister stated that the Chinese military has never carried out any such cyber attacks.
