A Shanghai company’s application was recently rejected by the city’s Industry & Commerce Bureau because of its proposed name: “Biggest Wife E-Commerce Co, Ltd.” The company’s application form soon went viral online with a caption reading, “The Industry & Commerce Bureau did not approve the company’s name on the grounds that it violates the principle of equality between the sexes and is not in line with public order or morals.”

On October 14, government authorities told the media that the name was in fact rejected and must be modified by the business owners.
