The families of each victim who died in a tragic school stampede in Kunming are to receive compensation up to 800,000 RMB.
6 students died and 26 were injured on Friday afternoon at Mingtong Primary School after being trampled by their classmates whilst going down the stairs. Large foam mattresses that were placed against the wall of the corridor fell down and trapped several children underneath. Several reports claim that this was because several children were playing with them.
Not realizing that their classmates were underneath, a stream of children ran over the mattress, killing and injuring dozens of first and second graders.
Five education officials have been suspended and two removed from their posts following the incident.
