Scary Food: Cancer-Causing Pesticide Used on Beijing Strawberries
Apr 28, 2015 By eChinacities.com

The Beijing Times reported that residue from a carcinogenic pesticide was recently found on the city's strawberries. Two pesticides- chlorothalonil and acetochlor- were found in eight tested batches of strawberries. The existence of chlorothalonil residue is in line with national standards, however, Beijing's strawberries have more than 6 times the amount of chlorothalonil than strawberries in the EU. Acetochlor, on the other hand, has been classified by experts in the United States as a Class B2 carcinogen. The long-term consumption of acetochlor can lead to lead-poisoning, and acetochlor particles themselves are carcinogenic.

The eight batches of strawberries were purchased at a Merry Mart supermarket, a strawberry picking patch in Changqing and at various roadside fruit stands. Many strawberry growers in Beijing claim to be organic and not to use pesticide, but the tested samples told a different story.

When despite being exposed years ago and promised it would never happen again they still keep on using the same guest bath towel to clean toilets and wipe drinking glasses in so-called high end hotels in Beijing, what are the things they wouldn't do in china?
