On the evening of December 31st, 2010, the Sanya Nanshan scenic area will hold a bell ringing ceremony to greet the New Year. A rich variety of activities will be held at the same time and is usually one of Sanya’s highlights in the New Year holiday season.

New Year Bell Ringing is a traditional custom in China and people see it as a way to pray for blessings in the coming year. Each New Year's Eve and Spring Festival Eve, Nanshan Mountain, which is an important Buddhism Mountain in the southernmost region of China, will hold the New Year bell ringing ceremony. The bell will be struck 108 times – a way to wipe away the 108 troubles and to pray for luck.
