Jul 25, 2012 By eChinacities.com

According to the 2012 Chinese Expat Creativity and Development Blue Book Report, the rate of Chinese expats returning to the mainland has increased substantially. Homegrown talent may be returning to the mainland at an exponential rate, but the number of individuals experiencing readjustment challenges and reverse culture shock is also growing.

Chinese official media sources and the Blue Book Report have pointed out that the growing number of opportunities is an important factor in attracting more talent to the Chinese mainland. However, the cultural and social challenges of readjustment are a major challenge for returnees who have lived, worked, and studied abroad. Some of the big issues include readjusting to the Chinese political system, family lifestyle, and the workforce. The Blue Book Report also showed that 90% of returnees are young males, but that the percentage of young female returnees is growing.
