Report on Otis Escalator Accident in Beijing Subway Line 4 Released

After the report on the Otis escalator accident in Beijing Subway Line 4 was released, Otis issued a statement on November 26th stating that it would perform thorough maintenance on the escalators and also install special safety precautions. All Otis escalators are expected to return to operation before the Spring Festival.

On July 5th, in the “A” exit of the Beijing Zoo station on Beijing Subway Line 4, an ascending Otis escalator suddenly reversed, killing a 13-year-old boy and injuring 30 others in the process. According to a statement released by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technological Supervision, three branches of the US-based Otis Elevator Company in China will be fined for the July accident, including a 200,000 RMB fine for Guangzhou Otis Elevator Co. Ltd., a 200,000 RMB fine for Beijing Otis Elevator Co. Ltd. and a 100,000 RMB fine for Otis Elevator (China) Investment Co. Ltd.
