In the first half of the year, the cost of renting in Beijing continued to rise. Rental costs already make up more than 25% of many people’s monthly salaries; some renters are forced to sublease the house with many other people to afford it, or to rent further outside of the city. Some people are simply starting to consider leaving Beijing for good.

The statistics from one intermediary agency show that in July, the average monthly rent in Beijing was 3,160 RMB, compared to last year's average monthly rent of 2,793 RMB (a 13% increase in price). In the CBD (Central Business District), Zhongguancun and other hot spots, average rents have risen more than 20% due to housing in these locations still being in short supply.
