The revised Regulations of Raising Dogs in Guangzhou will be put into operation this July 1. The law will strictly prohibit keeping, selling, and breeding 'dangerous dogs' in certain controlled areas.

9 and 21 species were drafted respectively as 'Forbidden or Highly Dangerous' and 'Advised Not to Raise' categories by local professionals after a recent discussion by the municipal authorities and the pet industry associations of Guangdong province and the city.

Central Asian Shepherd Dog and Chinese favorite Tibetan Mastiff are primarily classified as 'Forbidden' and 'Advised Not to Raise'.

The big dogs with mild character will not be prohibited.

The detailed dogs classification will be submitted to the municipality for final approval.

Local police claimed it would be a problem for them to identify the dangerous among almost 100 species found in Guangzhou.
