On March 29th, the Ministry of Environmental Protection announced that extremely low levels of radioactive iodine-131 were detected in more regions of China, including Beijing, Tianjin, Shangdong, Hebei, Henan, Shanxi and Ningxia. The discovery was made not long after similar radioactive iodine levels were detected in Heilongjiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Anhui, Guangdong and Guangxi. Since the levels of detected iodine-131 are extremely low and do not pose a threat to the public, no protective measures are needed.
