Are you ready to ROCK? The Power of Rock concert will be making its way to the Binghe Sports Centre in Taiyuan on November 6th. The concert features many of the biggest names in Chinese rock, including godfather Cui Jian and folk rockers Ershou Meigui. Tickets range from 150 RMB for nosebleed seats all the way up to 2880 RMB for the V-VIP seats (very very important person). More information on the performers is listed below.
Cui Jian: Known as the "godfather of Chinese Rock". His 1986 record "Nothing to My Name" has become a classic. After taking a break in the mid 90s, the 2005 tribute record "Who’s Cui Jian" reaffirmed his central role in the Chinese rock world.
Luo Dayou: Taiwan singer known as the "Godfather of Chinese Pop". Known for his creativity, he had several epoch-changing albums in the 80s and 90s. His songs have been covered numerous times. Check out these "choice-cuts": "Tonghua", "Ni de Yangzi", "Yebaihe Ye You Chuntian" and "Dongfang Zhu".
Hei Bao (Black Panther): This rock band was formed in 1987 by legendary rock musician Dou Wei and was one of the most influential rock bands in China. The band played a major role in the emergence of Chinese rock music in the 80s and 90s.
Ershou Meigui (Second-hand Rose): This band fuses together elements of traditional Dongbei "er ren zhuan" (north-eastern stand-up comedy) and modern folk and rock. Their extravagant stage performances are full of humorous song lyrics and inspiring musicianship. Check out these tracks: "Caihua" and "Huoche Kuai Kai".
Lunhui Band (Samsara): This band is well known for its skilful combination of classical, folk and rock music. Wu Yao, the lead female singer’s voice and "refined qualities" have been the secret to this band’s success. Representative works are " Fenghuo Hangzhou Lu" and "Wanfeng".
