Pollution Continues in Taiyuan and other Major Cities in Shanxi

According to the Bureau of Environmental Protection, the average Air Pollution Index (API) in Taiyuan and 10 other major cities in Shanxi Province climbed above 1.65 from January to September. And as these cities begin to supply heat for the oncoming winter (burning coal), air pollution is continuing to rise. Among the 11 major cities in Shanxi Province, Yangquan’s air pollution is the worst, with an API of 2.04, representing a 17.2% increase since last year. The API in Qizhou jumped up by 29.2% since last year—the biggest increase in the province.
