Police Raid Drugs Bar in Guangzhou; Over 300 Arrested
Jul 05, 2013 By eChinacities.com

Recently Guangzhou’s Liwan District People’s Procuratorate prosecuted 49 individuals on drug charges. Their arrest came in the wake of a huge drug bust at the “Youhao Pingtai” bar, which turned out to be a drug den.

The bar in question opened in November 2012, and business soon boomed, with customers from Hong Kong and Macau frequently visiting. Police suspicion was aroused however when the bar seemed to do its best to close itself off from the outside world; with customers only being let in if they were recommended by management of the bar and the entrance being guarded by lots of bouncers. After gathering enough evidence, police eventually sent a squad of over 600 officers to raid the bar and rounded up a total of 377 who were using or were involved in drugs. Police confiscated several substances including ketamine, as well as various apparatus for using drugs.

It was then found that the bar had nine special private rooms that were specifically for the use of drugs. During a night, the bar would earn tens of thousands of RMB from the sale of drugs. 49 people are currently being charged by the court while 214 remain in police custody.
