Police Mistake Pet Lambs for Babies in Child-Trafficking Case

Last week, police officers in Shaanxi’s Xi’an nearly arrested two hotel guests on charges of baby trafficking. However, the sounds that they heard were actually their pet lambs, not babies that they had stolen. Awkward.

The two men allegedly arrived at the hotel with a huge container, from which the hotel staff heard crying. When the staff eavesdropped at their room, they heard a conversation that went something like this: ‘is it dead?’, and ‘it’s fine’. It was at this point that they decided to call the police.

The police broke down the door and had their guns ready when they found the two men with a box containing two tiny bleating lambs.

However, one of the men, surnamed Xu, explained that they were discussing their lambs, which they had bought in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region as a gift for his son. As they couldn’t take the lambs onto an airplane, they took the train back to Chongqing, which had a stopover in Xi’an.

The police officers have apologised for the inconvenience.

What were they doing in a hotel with lambs? What were they doing to them to make them cry out?
