Shanghai Metro recently informed reporters that on the morning of February 29, a man failed to successfully pickpocket a cell phone at Yi Shan Road station as he was immediately caught by his victim and recorded on video surveillance.

According to Li Hong, the victim in the incident, she noticed her phone was missing as she boarded the train, and she immediately got off when she noticed a man on the platform who she suspected to be the culprit. Li Hong yelled at the man and asked an attendant for help.

The man first denied he stole Li Hong’s phone, but a helpful bystander then offered her own phone to Li Hong so that she could call the stolen phone. Li Hong made the call, and a ring-tone started to emit from the man’s general direction. The man pulled out the phone from his pocket, dropped it on the floor and tried his best to escape before being caught by the authorities.

Shanghai Metro reminds passengers to pay attention to their belongings while riding the subway.
