Because of the summer holiday, and because it has much cooler temperatures than the rest of China, Tibet is a choice destination for many students and office workers at this time of year. The peak tourism season for Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, started in early July, and, according to reports, almost every hotel has been near capacity, with the average occupancy rate exceeding 90%. As such, it is quite common to see tourists lining up outside of youth hostels waiting for a bed to open up, as it is difficult to book a room in Lhasa even at a price that is much higher than normal.
