Parents of Wrongly- Executed Teenager Demand Compensation
Dec 23, 2014 By eChinacities.com

The parents of a teenaged boy who was wrongly executed in 1996 for rape and murder have announced that they will demand state compensation.

Huugjilt was only 18 when he was tried and executed for the rape and murder of a woman in a public bathroom in 1996. He was exonerated just last week, 18 years after his execution in a retrial by an Inner Mongolian court.

Although another man confessed to the crime in 2005, it took Huugjilt’s parents nearly a decade of petitioning to get the case re-tried.

They broke down in tears when they heard the not-guilty verdict as a court official aplogized to them.

Alleged serial killer Zhao Zhihong is suspected of the rape and murder of 10 women and girls between 1996 and 2005. He was tried in 2006 but no verdict has yet been issued.
