Panda Love Caught on Camera in Shaanxi Province

Panda Love Caught on Camera in Shaanxi Province
Apr 08, 2016 By eChinacities.com

Staff at the Foping National Nature Reserve in Shaanxi Province recently captured a rare shot of two giant pandas mating. On March 26, staff recorded the two pandas getting busy after a 10 day stalemate.

When the pandas were put in the same area in the reserve, the female panda climbed up a tree and hung out on a limb about 15 minutes from the ground. The male panda waited and lay around under the tree.

The female panda waited in the tree without food and a comfortable place to sleep for 10 days. She was able to drink small amounts of water when it rained. The male panda stayed near the tree and continued to lie around, not wandering more than 50 meters away from the tree for food. On April 4, after 10 days of waiting, the female panda came down from the tree and the male was finally able to “win her heart.”

About 345 wild giant pandas live in the Qinling Mountains of Shaanxi Province. 10 years ago, there were only 273. The area has the densest wild panda population in the country.
