With less than 100 days to go to the opening of the Shanghai World Expo, the programme for the opening and closing ceremonies has been decided and 90% of construction work at the Expo site is completed. The curtains will be raised on the evening of April 30th and drawn on October 31st. The number of participants at this year’s Expo has broken a new record in Expo history. At present, 192 countries and 50 international organisations have confirmed participation, while 31 provinces within China as well as Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan have all confirmed attendance. The first batch of Expo tickets went on sale on January 17th, selling 18 million tickets within the last few days. It is estimated that 70 million people will visit the site during the 184 days of the event. Entry to the China Pavilion will be limited to 50,000 people per day. However, it is estimated that under normal circumstances only 80% of that number will be able to visit the pavilion.
