Shanghai auto shows will no longer feature models, ifeng reports. Notices have been sent out to various car brands stating that models should not be used to advertise the cars in the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show.

China’s car shows are notorious for shamelessly using scantily clad women to market their products and their outfits (or lack of ) have become as much a fixture at the exhibitions as the vehicles.

However, this will no longer be the case in Shanghai as the group that hosts the exhibitions have decided not to include them, to make sure the car show doesn’t turn into a ‘boob show’, as some exhibitions have been previously dubbed.

By banning the models, the Shanghai Auto Show Organising Committee hopes that the show can return to its original purpose and focus more on the actual cars. Tencent news pointed out that models at some of the world’s top car shows such as the Paris Auto Show and the Geneva Auto Show dress more conservatively (i.e short, low cut dresses compared to fishnet shirts and actual nudity- NSFW ) and sometimes even use male models- although it should be pointed out that the male models are almost always fully clothed and standing upright.
