No Formal Sino-Japan Talks During APEC Summit

No Formal Sino-Japan Talks During APEC Summit
Nov 06, 2014 By eChinacities.com

It now seems less likely that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will have formal talks during the Beijing APEC Summit this month.

According to Kyodo News Agency, there were sources that claimed that these talks would happen, and that APEC would be positive for Asian relations.

However, these talks are unlikely to happen, as there are still major differences in the Chinese and Japanese standpoints with regards to the Diaoyu/Shenkaku Islands and the Yasukuni Shrine. There are also still disagreements on Japan’s wartime occupation of China.

A survey we covered two months ago showed that relations between the two nations have gone downhill, as Japanese people had a worse impression of Chinese people than before, and vice versa.
