New Rules for Entering Guangzhou Railway Station; More Trains Added
Jan 06, 2012 By eChinacities.com

Right in time for Spring Festival, additional trains have been added to the Guangzhou-Wuhan and Guangzhou-Changsha high-speed rails. The Guangzhou South-Wuhan line now has 52 trains running daily, while the Guangzhou South-Changsha South line has 36 trains running daily. Specifically, there will be five trains on the Guangzhou South-Yueyang East route (广州南-岳阳东), four trains on the Guangzhou South to Hengyang East route (广州南-衡阳东), and three trains on the Guangzhou South to Shaoguan route (广州南-韶关).

With the implementation of the real-name ticketing system, new rules are in effect for how to enter the Guangzhou Railway Station. Specifically, for non-Guangzhou permanent residents, an off-site waiting area has been set up at Pazhou (琶洲):

1) If you have a ticket that reads "候车地点:琶洲" (Waiting area: Pazhou), you cannot directly enter the Guangzhou Railway Station. Instead, you must go to Pazhou.
2) Four hours before your train is scheduled to depart, you should go to the Guangzhou International Exhibition Center on Pazhou Island to wait.
3) Two hours before your train is scheduled to depart, you will be escorted by someone to the subway, which will take you from Pazhou to the Railway Station (for free).
4) You will need to transfer subway lines at Changgang Station (昌岗站) and then continue to the Railway Station (广州火车站).

Special note: As some trains will depart very early in the morning, passengers may need to leave for Pazhou the night before so as to avoid missing the train. For example, if you are riding a train that departs on January 13th at 02:03, you will need to leave for Pazhou on January 12th to guarantee that you make the train.
