Shanghai will start selling city discount tour cards from today for use from July. The cards will give holders discounts at 50 local stores, tourist attractions, restaurants and hotels but more venues are expected to be signed up to the scheme. The card can also be used to pay for transport on the Metro, buses, taxis and ferries from today, the Shanghai Tourism Administration said yesterday. Card holders can also get discounts on some shows and sporting events.

The cards - which will come in 500 yuan (US$71) and 1,000 yuan denominations plus a 10-yuan deposit - can be bought from 81 branches of the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank and 80 branches of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. The card, which will be valid for two years, will also be available from airports, sightseeing bus centers and railway stations soon.

The full list of where the card is sold is on the card's Website, www.sctcd.com, but only in Chinese. Also the participating venues are listed on the Website. For more information call 962-020, which has an English service.
