Netizens Argue Over Metro Seat-Giving Debacle

Netizens Argue Over Metro Seat-Giving Debacle
Jan 07, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Netizens have been arguing recently over a video that emerged online recently. In it, a woman gave up her seat on Shanghai Metro Line 1, only to take it back when the person failed to say thank you.

After she stood up, she apparently said, “Do you not have any decency? Say thank you, otherwise get up again.”

Several netizens condemned her actions, saying that it was her choice to give up the seat, so she shouldn’t demand anything of the other person.

Shanghai resident Mr Shen weighed in, saying: “This situation is so illogical, if you give up your seat, then your only objective should be to do what’s right, not to get a certain response or result.”

That's modern day China for you. Take but not give. It's all about me. I don't blame this person for taking the seat back. How hard is it to thank someone for a simple good deed? No manners, no decency and most importantly...no hope.

I love this lady. When people dont say thank you I give them shit all the time. Ive noticed that things are changing. Their mindsets. When I first came to China if I gave someone hell even the people I was with thought I always went to far and often sided with the rude person, but now people will cheer me on. Its nice to see. Last weekend I went to HK and at the customs coming back it was busy and everyone was lined up to put their luggage through the Xray machine. This Dude walks up to the front and puts his luggage on. So i pick his luggage up and toss it on the floor and ask him " dont you see everyone lining up? ARe you so important?" Before, there would be akward crickets for sure. But everyone in the line started giving him shit or giving me thumbs up! Changes are coming!!! I hope.
