According to reports, construction work on the Airport Light Rail from Nanjing South Station to Lukou Airport will commence in April. It is planned to be put into service at the end of 2013. However, the Airport Light Rail can only reach a maximum speed of 100 km/hour which is close to the speed of a car on the airport express road. According to rough estimates, the whole trip will take at least 35 minutes, since there will be eight stations along the 35 km light rail.
