An outdoor music amphitheater will be built in Zhongshan Park in Changning District before the 2010 World Expo.

The shell-shaped amphitheater will be located near the park's giant statue of Chopin which was erected in 2007. Audiences will able to sit on the lawn and enjoy performances with state-of-the-art sound systems. The statue from Poland is about 7 meters high and weighs 2.5 tons and is the largest statue of Chopin in the world. There had been an amphitheater in the park from 1924, but it was demolished during the Culture Revolution (1966-1976).

Poland will be staging piano contests and performances to celebrate the 200 anniversary of Chopin in the amphitheater next year. And activities in memory of Chopin would also be held in Poland's Pavilion at the World Expo site as well.
