From April 13-15, a large celebration for the annual Water-Splashing Festival was held in Yunnan’s Jinhong City in the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture. On April 15, at the height of the celebrations, tens of thousands of locals and tourists gathered together in the city square to join in the festivities. Unfortunately, a group of men used this occasion to grab and molest women involved in the celebrations.
The harassed women immediately reported the incident to the police. Soon after, patrol of the area was intensified and the police managed to apprehend 23 men involved in the molestations. Police stated that most of the men caught were either service or tourism workers who were from other parts of China.
