Massive Smuggling Ring Bust in Shenzhen; 18 Foreigners Arrested

During the early hour of June 7, Shenzhen’s border control team bust a massive smuggling operation in the Dapeng New District in Shenzhen which has led to the arrest of 21 people including 18 foreign nationals.

At the end of May, the border control team was tipped off about an attempted smuggling operation in the city, prompting the team to launch an immediate investigation. On June 6, the team was given another tip that the main suspects were travelling in a bus headed for Shenzhen. At 01:00 on the morning of June 7, the lead detective ascertained that that the suspects were travelling on a bus from the city to Dapeng New District.

At 03:00, shortly after a large group of men got off the bus the border officers swooped in and arrested the suspects. However, Chinese news reports have not specified what exactly the group was trying to smuggle.
