Man Accepts Lottery Prize Wearing Mask to Hide Identity from Family
Jan 23, 2015 By eChinacities.com

One very lucky man in Sichuan accepted his 5 million RMB lottery prize wearing a cloth with a print of a mahjong tile on it, to hide his identity from his wife and child.

According to Mr Li, he is a frequent lottery player, but prior to this, his highest win was 200 RMB. He doesn’t plan to tell anybody about his big win, not even his wife and child. He believes that telling his family about the money is meaningless; “I do business, I’ll just start taking out a little more money each month to improve our lives, which should be fine.”

Mr Li, who estimates that he has spent hundreds of thousands of RMB on the lottery in the past ten years is not the only person keen to preserve their anonymity when collecting lottery wins; winners have appeared wearing everything from Spiderman masks to full panda suits in a bid to hide their identity from nosy parkers.

Usually people want to hide lottery winnings from potential thieves and criminals. In China, they hide winnings from their families. What does this say about Chinese families?

I would do the same thing. In China, if everyone knows you got money... you won't have it for very long at all.
