Location and Climate

The city of Chongqing is situated at 105°17'and 28°10'. It is a part of the Chongqing municipality which sits within the Sichuan Basin in the central area of China surrounded by Shaanxi, Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, and Guizhou provinces. Topographically, Chongqing lies at the point where the heights of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau give way to the plains of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze.

The city has very hot summers, with average maximums in August reaching 35C (95F), and mild winters which see average January lows of around 5C (41F). Rainfall is relatively low (1000-1400mm per year), with most falling in the summer months. The city's famous fog keeps annual sunshine hours down to 1000-1200 hours per year.
