A world class 'CIGS thin-film solar energy cell' project was signed on Feb. 26 in Guangzhou's Baiyun district. With a total investment of 1.64 billion Yuan, the project will officially begin on March 10.

Reportedly, the CIGS thin-film cell is part of a third generation of solar energy products, which are low-polluting, inexpensive, highly efficient and widely used. The first panel is scheduled for release on September 28.

The project is located in Renhe county of Guangzhou's Baiyun district. With a total architectural area of 32,000 square meters, the project has two production lines for manufacturing CIGS cells. All of the production facilities are imported. It is expected that yearly production will reach 1.3 billion Yuan once the project is fully operational, with the government collecting 0.12 billion Yuan in annual tax revenue. In addition, the project requires 200 staff members, who must each have at least a master's degree.
