This weekend, a number of key areas in Beijing will display a dazzling array of lanterns in celebration of the annual Lantern Festival. Qianmen just south of Tiananmen and Sanlitun are expected to attract the brunt of visitors. If you missed the traditional temple fairs this year, then you may want to consider heading to Qianmen this weekend where you’ll not only be greeted by a nice lantern display but many other highlights too including dragon and lion dances and stalls selling all kinds of trinkets and souvenirs. Sanlitun on the other hand, promises to embrace a more contemporary approach with a range of colorful, creative lighting going up in the main Village square area. That’s not all: over a hundred lanterns and lights in various shapes and sizes will be displayed at The Orange in Sanlitun over the weekend as well.
