Kunming Travel Tips

Temperatures in Kunming fluctuate greatly, with temperature drops ranging from 12-20℃ in winter and spring. May to October is Kunming’s rainy season, with showers occurring almost every day. Travelers who visit during this period are advised to bring a good raincoat and warm clothing for when the temperature drops.

Yunnan is located on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau with peaks as high as 3,700 m in the north of the province. Some of the most stunning scenery, from rolling hills to breathtaking gorges, can be found in this province. The high elevation of Yunnan means strong UV rays even on cloudy days, so bringing a good pair of sunglasses with UV protection and sunscreen is advised. Also, those prone to altitude sickness or with high blood pressure who plan to trek mountains in more remote areas are advised to bring appropriate medication as a precaution.
